Colobanthus quitensis

Colobanthus quitensis, Sans. Sagina quitensis Humboldt, Bonpland & Kunth; (Perle antarctique ou clavel antarctique), est une des deux plantes avec fleur de la région antarctique, joins à la Deschampsia antarctica. La Colobanthus appartient à la famille des cariofiláceas ou Caryophyllaceae.

Il se trouve dans le bord continental, comme en des Îles Orcades du Sud et dans les Îles Shetland du Sud. L'espèce a un habit de croissance acolchado, en habitant avec l'apparence d'un musgo, et avec fleurest blanches en formant tussoks et tundras. Il obtient une hauteur de près 8 cm.
