James Gosling (né le 19 mai 1956]] près Calgary, Alberta, le Canada) est un fameux scientifique du calcul connu comme le père du langage de programmation Java.

Se graduó en des Sciences dans la Université de Calgary en 1977 et a réalisé le doctorado dans la fameuse Université de Carnegie Mellon en 1983.

Gosling Est reconnu comme le créateur du langage de programmation Java. Il a réalisé la création originale et l'implémentation du compilador original et la machine virtuelle Java, par ce que a été choisi membre de l'Académie Nationale d'Ingénierie des États-Unis (NAE).

En plus, Gosling a contribué avec autres projets de logiciel comme NeWS et Gosling Emacs.

Depuis 1984 James Gosling a travaillé dans la compagnie américaine Sun Microsystems d'où est actuellement vice-président.
