Jonas Mekas

Jonas Mekas (Semeniškiai, la Lituanie, 23 décembre de 1922) est un cinéaste lituanien. Uns des maximums exposants du cinéma expérimental américain.

Biographie
Avant de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Mekas a ouvert un théâtre je joins avec son frère, Adolfas. Une fois commencée la guerre, Mekas a été porté à un champ de réfugiés, où a appris le méthode Stanislavsky.[1]
Les deux frères ont émigré aux États-Unis en 1949 et ils ont étudié avec Hans Richter avant d'ouvrir la revue Film Culture en 1955.[2] Jonas Mekas a continué en écrivant critiques cinématographiques pour Village Voice depuis 1958.
Il a fondé la coopérative The Film Makers (1962) et les archives Anthology Film Archives (1970). Pendant cette époque a été étroitement lié avec la scène du cinéma expérimental et le pop-art, en entrant en contact avec des artistes comme Andy Warhol, Nico, Allen Ginsberg, Yoko Ono, John Lennon ou Salvador Dalí.
Malgré le fait que ses films narratifs et documentaires sont bien envisagées par la critique, Jonas Mekas est principalement connu par ses films-quotidien, comme Walden (1969), Lost, Lost, Lost (1975), Reminiscences of à Journey to Lithuania (1972), et Zefiro Revient (1992). En 2001, il a débuté un film-quotidien de 5 heures de durée appelée As I Was Moving Ahead, Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty (que signifie: tandis qu'il devançait, occasionnellement ví petits estellos de beauté), monté à partir d'images de divers enregistrements accumulées tout au long de 50 ans de sa vie. Peter Sempel a roulé à Jonas Mekas dans le film "Jonas in the Desert" (1994).
En 2007, Mekas publie 365 court-métrages (en publiant un chaque jour de l'an) à travers le réseau pour Apple Computer, pensés pour être reproduits en employant le iPod.[3]
Mekas Est aussi un connu poète en langue lituanienne.
